Nurmon VPK - Young Firefighters in action

Mikä olisikaan parempi tapa viettää viikonloppua kuin odotella kameran kanssa, että kohta tapahtuu. Jo tutuksi tullut Nurmon VPK järjesti viikonloppuna palokuntanuorille leirin Nurmon paloasemalla. Leiriin liittyi harjoitustehtäviä, joissa palokuntanuoret tulivat harjoitushälyytyksille. Olin kuvaamassa yhteensä kolmea harjoitustehtävää, joista ensimmäinen oli ensivaste tehtävä, jossa palokuntanuoret pelastivat kaksi murtumista ja hypotermiasta kärsivää nuorta puistosta. Harjoitus sujui kivuttomasti ja sitä oli mukava seurata.

Tilanteen alkamista odotellessa puistossa leikkimässä olleet lapset huomasivat täydessä varustuksessa olevan palomiehen, joka seisoi "potilaiden" kanssa leikkitelineiden luona odottaen palokuntanuoria paikalle. Lapset utelivat palomieheltä, miksi tämä oli paikalla ja kuultuaan, että kysymyksessä oli harjoitus lapset juoksivat äitinsä luokse huutaen, että olivat juuri nähneet poliisin.  Pahoittelut palomiehille, univormu tekee teistä poliiseja.

What would be better way to spend Saturday afternoon then wait with camera to see young firefighters in action. Nurmo's Volunteer fire department arranged a firefighter camp for young volunteer firefighters in Nurmo last weekend. One part of the camp was tasks where the young firefighters got alerted to a scene of accident. I got to photograph three tasks and the first one was first-aid task where firefigters were the first ones to arrive at the scene where 2 young adults were suffering of several fractures and hypothermia. It was nice to follow how the young firefighters handled the situation.

The task happend in a park and since the day was nice there were some kids playing. When the kids saw the firefighter in his gear waiting with the "patients", they wanted to know why he was there and almost without waiting for the answer the kids ran to their mom yelling "mum we saw a police man". Sorry firefighters, parently uniform makes you a police.
